This zeolite is a naturally occurring product of volcanic ash that has settled in a fresh water lake and solidified to form clinoptilolite zeolite. 'Zeolite' refers to minerals that are calcium potassium sodium aluminosilicates and hold micronutrients and water in their lattice-like channels. Its negatively-charged, cage-like structure acts as a natural cation exchange agents and loosely holds cations such as calcium, sodium, ammonium, and potassium which can also help reduce nitrogen loss from other applied fertilizers.

Zeolite is widely used as a fertilizer and soil amendment for it's ability to increase water retention in the soil. Clinoptilolite increases soil porosity for aeration, helps prevent soil compaction, and is a carrier of essential nutrients and water. Able to hold up to 55% of its own weight in water, zeolite is able to conserve water from irrigation and rainfall so that nutrients and water are held in the root zone and readily available to plants for fast growth.

This clinoptilolite zeolite has been crushed to a fine powder (15-20 microns) and is a pale green color.
